Graphic Design Trends for 2022

07th Jan 2022

At the start of each year, we like to take a moment to brush up on the latest design trends expected to take the design world by storm, so that we’re ready to help you create eye-catching print in the year ahead. After extensive research, we’re sharing some of the upcoming graphic design trends with you in this blog to make sure your print is on trend in 2022.

Escapism

As the pandemic rolls on, escapism within design will offer a much-needed distraction from reality, this trend works particularly well within illustrative designs or within background artwork. The use of imaginative escapism within your print will help people lose themselves in the moment for a short while – helping to really make an impact with a truly memorable piece of print.

Retro 90’s styling

They say everything makes a comeback and this time it’s the turn of the 90’s! Think bold fonts, bright neon colours and combining abstract and geometric shapes and patterns to reflect that classic 90’s style. If you’re looking to create attention grabbing print, this is the trend for you – perfect for applying to leaflets and posters.

Experimental typography

Experimenting with creative typography is a great way to get people to pay attention. Anything goes, from missing letters, upside down letters, combining big and small or different fonts and colours… let your imagination run wild with this one, as showing off your artsy side will add edge to your designs and really get people noticing your creativity.

Geometric shapes

The use of geometric shapes within design has been popular in recent years and it’s continuing to grow in popularity. Combinations of simple geometric shapes and colours can be used together to create unique patterns, and with the addition of mixed-media elements, it’s possible to use this trend to combine art, design and photography to create striking designs.

Muted colour palettes

The use of muted colour palettes is an ever-growing trend, but this doesn’t mean they have to be dull or boring – taking your original colour palette and toning it down slightly by reducing the saturation is the perfect way inject a bit of a refresh into your existing brand without the need for a full change, helping to add a modern edge to your print materials.

Pantone Colour of the Year

The Pantone Colour of the Year 2022 has been announced as PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri. Described as “A new Pantone colour whose courageous presence encourages personal inventiveness and creativity.” – especially important values when it comes to creating the perfect piece of print! Will you be using this colour in your print?
