Why we support Surfers Against Sewage

22nd Aug 2017

At Ashley House, we are passionate about protecting our environment and we do everything we can to reduce our carbon footprint. We are committed to sourcing products for our customers which make a minimal impact on the environment, and we are continually working to ensure we leave the lightest possible footprint.

Surfers Against Sewage 250 Membership

We are delighted to announce that we have decided to support Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) by joining their ‘250 membership’ scheme; this will help them to drive forward their Coastal Environmental movement!

We will donate £250 a year to the charity and are excited about the fact that this will help towards a 50% reduction in marine litter by 2020!

SAS have a focus on climate change, protecting our oceans, waves, beaches and wildlife in and around the sea.

The charity was founded in 1990 by a group of passionate Cornish surfers who wanted to put a stop to the plastic pollution that blights our beautiful beaches.

‘We are a grassroots movement that has grown into one of the UK’s most active and successful environmental charities.’

They are now a Nation Wide Marine Conservation Charity, working with our communities to protect marine life and the environment.

SAS represents an ever-expanding supporter base and campaigns on a diverse range of issues – they want plastic free coastlines, to protect wave resource and surfing spots through the ‘Protect Our Waves Campaign’ and regular Beach Cleans throughout the UK. To date, 16,989 people have taken part in beach cleans this year, with thanks to SAS. The charity have made it clear that they will not stop campaigning until beaches are 100% clean, safe and protected for everyone, forever.

How Can You Help?

You can support SAS through membership donations like we do, or you can volunteer to do things like running a Beach Clean at your local beach, sign petitions, buy from their shop and spread the word to everyone about the charity! If you love the environment, oceans and wildlife, you should start supporting SAS in some way, this will further allow their impact to be widely felt!
