Graphic Design Trends for 2019

Graphic Design Trends for 2019

04th Jan 2019

With 2019 in full swing, it’s time to embrace change and start thinking about what the year ahead has in store for print design. To save you the hard work and to ensure your print stands out from the competition next year, we’ve looked at the top graphic design trends that are likely to lead the way in 2019.

Colour Transitions & Gradients

With many big names using gradients and colour transitions they will be sticking around but with added complexity – combining vivid colour tones. 2018 saw these techniques used mainly as backgrounds, but we’re expecting to see them incorporated into more areas of graphic design.

Minimal & Simplistic Design

Minimalism will be used across all areas of design, including stripped back versions of existing logos. If a design works just as well when taking away certain elements, remove them! As the saying goes ‘less is more’, making simplicity a good choice for high-quality branding and design.

Galactic Effects

A newly emerging trend for 2019 – galactic effects! Expect to see dark background hues with bright flashes of blues, pinks and purples creeping their way in – giving a futuristic vibe with a galactic feel; think cosmos, universe and galaxies.

Shine & Metallic Elements

Shiny metallic elements will be used to add eye-catching focus points to print, working great on product packaging and logos. Metallics add a touch of luxury and exclusivity – from classic golds and silvers to the ever-growing popularity of copper, rose golds and dazzling iridescence!

3D Effects

Visually pleasing and creative, 3D effects can make a piece of print feel immersive, adding depth so that the design or typography looks as though it is almost popping out from the page. A great way to give a modern edge to your print!

Bespoke Illustration

Bespoke illustration offers a chance for brands to get creative with original design. From hand-drawn illustrations to paper cut illustrations, the key to this trend is using an illustrator that ‘gets’ your brand and can help bring it to life.

Natural Photography

Designers are seeking natural-looking photography. Dig deep when hunting for stock photos to find more natural-looking images that aren’t frequently used – there’s nothing worse than recognising a stock photo used by multiple businesses. Even better, invest in your own photography!

Pantone Colour of the Year 2019

At the end of every year, Pantone announces their ‘Colour of the Year’ for the year ahead. This colour finds its way into designs across all industries that involve an element of design – from fashion, interiors, product packaging, print design… the list goes on. The 2019 Colour of the Year is 16-1546 Living Coral; so, without doubt, we can expect to see this used in print design.
