Graphic Design Trends for 2023

Graphic Design Trends for 2023

09th Jan 2023

At the start of the year, we like to take some time to brush up on the upcoming trends for the year ahead, so you can keep your print looking its best – we’ve done the research, so you don’t have to… In this blog, we explore what can be expected from graphic design in 2023, so you can stay ahead of the curve and create eye-catching print projects.

Minimalist design

A return to simplicity as minimalist design continues to grow. Designers will aim to keep things clean and simple to help direct attention and clearly communicate key messages. By focusing on minimalism, designers can create aesthetically pleasing designs that are easy, clean, and simply to navigate.

Foiling

Foiling is a great way to add some luxe to your designs. It’s a unique way to highlight certain elements while also taking it up a notch by adding an extra bit of sophistication – perfect for creating something extra special this year. A little foiling can help make all the difference, especially when it comes to product packaging, logos, or print to mark a special occasion.

Muted colour palettes

Expect to see a rise in muted and subtle colour palettes this year. These soft hues and muted tones help bring a sense of calm, peace, and sophistication to any design – great for adding a touch of elegance and clarity to a piece of print. Muted tones can even be used by toning down an existing brand palette to give a new look and feel without a total rebrand.

Pantone Colour of the Year 2023

Pantone is a trendsetter in the creative world and The Pantone Colour of the Year 2023 has been announced as Viva Magenta 18-1750. Described as “An animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.” Will you use this colour in your print this year?

Sustainable design

It goes without saying that sustainability is at the top of our radar, however, it’s also becoming increasingly popular with designers and brands aiming to improve their eco credentials and appear more eco-conscious. Expect to see a focus on sustainable materials when it comes to producing print, especially within packaging design.

Geometric shapes

Geometric shapes within design have become increasingly popular in recent years. The combination of patterns created using simple shapes and colours can transform a project into something special and visually appealing – especially when combined with mixed media elements like art, photography, or typography!

Hand-drawn illustrations

Hand-drawn illustrations are perfect for making your projects stand out from the crowd by creating something totally bespoke. The unique look hand-drawn illustrations offer is perfect for conveying your project or brand, as drawing by hand adds a personal touch that digital illustration cannot compete with. A great way to provide authentic, eye-catching imagery and personality.

Creative typography

Getting creative with typography will become the key focus point to many designs. Good typography has the power to transform a design by making it more engaging and guiding the attention of the viewer to where it’s most important – as well as making your print pop visually!

Staying up to date with the latest graphic design trends is a great way to make sure your print truly stands out from the crowd. With each year we see trends come and go, but we’re excited to see what 2023 has to offer with some of these… Will you be using any of them in your print design this year?
